Italy with Kid
This was our second time to Italy. We planned a 4 days trip with my husband, dad and 8 months old kid. The main cities we visited this time were Rome, Vatican city, Pisa and Venice. It was too much for 4 days but still we managed well with the kid and also enjoyed the trip very much. We also explored the whole trip on train and bus.
Day 1 : Rome
Rome is a beautiful city filled with so much history and facts. It was a sunny day and hottest day of this trip. We went to colosseum which was very much crowded and so we took a guided tour to skip the long queue.

We had to do a lot of walking. It was a bit tiring and we were sweating a lot as it was very hot and sunny. I had to rest everywhere possible to get my energy back.

We then went to the Palatine Hill. It is the most famous of Romeβs seven hills which is located close to colosseum and the Roman forum. The ticket for one site includes admission to the other two.

You can also get a good full view of colosseum from Palatine Hill.

Other places that we just walked by :
1.) Roman Forum – Walking through the Roman forum makes you to get back in time through the ancient Rome. The ticket to colosseum also includes visit to Roman Forum.
2.) Trevi Fountain – Throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi) is a tradition that is supposed to assure your return to Rome. Luckily it worked for me! π
3.) The Pantheon – This is the most preserved ancient building in Rome. You can visit it at free of charge. No tickets required.
4.) Piazza Navona – Its a beautiful and famous square of Rome located close to the Pantheon.
Day 2 : Vatican City
Vatican city is the smallest independent state located within the city of Rome. St.Peter’s Basilica is the main attraction here. And the St. Peter’s square is popular and crowded tourist spot with lots of shop for souvenirs and restaurants.

We spent a whole day in Vatican city. It was very beautiful. But we were not able to visit the museum as it was very crowded with a very long queue.

Day 3 : Pisa
We took a train from Rome to Pisa which was around 3 hrs. We had to take a bus from train station to Pisa. It was drizzling and we were able to take some pictures there. But it was too late to get inside Pisa and it is also something to note that children under 8 years old are not allowed to go inside. So we were already prepared to not go inside.

Day 4 : Venice
Venice is the beautiful city and we really enjoyed walking around the city and the breathtaking view. This was our second time here. I love window shopping in Venice. Everything we see is beautiful and romantic. Best way to enjoy it is by grabbing some food along the canal side and watch the city getting lively.

Some things to consider while travelling with baby:
1.) I preferred baby carrier more than a pram as it is difficult to push the pram on these cobblestone streets. And though some bridges in Venice support pram path we had to take stairs for bridges that were too big. So i wouldn’t recommend pram in Venice.
2.) Some baby food options are steam veggies, bread sticks, fresh Italian breads and fries. I also breastfed my kid on demand and so the nursing cover was so handy everywhere.
3.) Since my kid was only 8 months old i found it easier to travel with her as she stayed happy and content in the baby carrier as long as she got her food, sleep and diaper change π
